The Avona family of fonts are inspired by fantasy games and calligraphy. Carolingian letterforms from the early ninth century guided the round, calligraphic structure and wide shapes. My aim was to capture the essence of fantasy in a typeface, which resulted in a polished humanist serif that is closely related to hand drawn forms. The large x-height and low contrast help with legibility requirements making it a great choice for longer uses of text and flavourful user interfaces.

When combined with Avona as the display typeface, the two work together to visually create a world of magical fantasy while meeting the demands of good modern typography. Avona is currently available in beta on my website.

Designed by Jeff Levine, Road Picture JNL is a display sans and hand display font family. This typeface has two styles and was published by Jeff Levine Fonts . Road Picture JNL Road Picture JNL was modeled after the hand lettered title and credits for the 1940 Bob Hope-Bing Crosby semi-musical comedy “Road to Singapore”, and is available in both regular and oblique versions. Although the lettering design doesn’t resemble anything that was probably used in Singapore at the time, its faux “exotic” look still makes for an interesting revival. In our days off, we went to Piazza Maggiore to see what the city had to offer and luckily for us we saw an incredible store sign saying CAMPORA. We took some pictures of the typed font and later back in the studio we discovered that it was Dynamo. Immediately our minds were blown away by its beauty and thus we decided to design a new font inspired by its sharp and geometric design adding new weights and OpenType features. In the process we realized that both Dynamo and one of our favorite fonts Avant Garde, share a similar structure, so we made a type mashup between these beauties, including the sharpness of Dynamo and the revolutionary ligatures of Avant Garde.
